How Much Raw Food Should You Feed Dogs?
Feeding your dog a raw diet has many benefits. From a shinier coat to better nutrients there are a ton of reasons to make the switch. One of the most common concerns and questions we get at Just Raw Pet Food is about portions. For pet owners that have only ever known dry kibble, it can be a little nerve-wracking to switch to a new method, especially if you’re unsure how much to feed them.
At Just Raw, we aim to make it as easy as possible to feed your dog a balanced diet of raw food. That’s why all of our food is delivered prepackaged in easily manageable portions. Exactly how much you need to feed your dog will depend on their size, but thankfully it’s super easy to figure out.
How Much to Feed
For raw food, it’s recommended to feed 2% to 3% of an adult dog’s body weight. So if your dog is 25 lbs, that means they’ll need 0.5lbs or 8 oz of food a day. The formula is pretty simple math: (Dog’s weight) x 0.02 = (food weight). We even have a handy raw feeding calculator that you can use if mental math isn’t your thing.
It’s important to keep a close eye on your dog when you first start feeding them raw. Our feeding calculator is meant to be a guideline for daily feeding. Every dog is different though! Always pay close attention to your dog’s weight and health, and adjust their food accordingly. Active dogs may require more food, while dogs that don’t move as much might need less.
